Rabbit Surgery
Rabbit surgery usually involves a general anaesthetic which is more risky than for a dog or cat, but the benefits usually outweigh the risks.
Risks are reduced if a healthy predominantly hay diet (with no fruit) is fed. If not, a diet correction may be required for at least 2 weeks. (See the Nutrition page.)
Pre-Surgery Information
No fasting is necessary for a rabbit as they cannot vomit. Before anaesthesia, a history of your pet rabbit and a clinical examination are required to minimise risk. Routine and more complicated surgeries are performed without the use of antibiotics unless otherwise indicated. Good outcomes come from good techniques.
